On 26th May 2025 Greenwoods Corner Epsom Business Association (GCEBA) held its AGM and Annual Networking Event and, after five years of operation, the business association continues to go from strength to strength.
During the past financial year, the business association has: provided its members with free sustainability coaching; further strengthened its relationship with CPNZ; extensively consulted and represented its members in relation to proposed safety design changes by Auckland Transport; held the phenomenally successful Greenwoods Corner Spring Festival; installed Kiwiana Christmas stencils on participating member businesses; run the "Cracker of a Christmas" competition; held the Greenwoods Corner Go Green Eco Day 2025; and run the "Greenwoods Corner Climate Change Poster Competition" for pre-school and school aged children. With further events planned for the rest of the calendar year, there are plenty of reasons to keep coming back to the Corner. At the AGM, feedback was sought from members about Auckland Transport's proposed T3 lane changes and the extent to which they would impact local businesses. This enabled members to raise and discuss their concerns in an open forum, informing the committee as to the key issues to be addressed in its submission on the consultation. The business association would like to thank Greenwoods Kitchen for hosting the AGM and the Albert-Eden Local Board for its continued support of the business association and the local businesses it represents. Public consultation is now live regarding Auckland Transport's proposed T3 transit lane changes in Epsom and Greenlane. Auckland Transport's proposal (as it most directly impacts Greenwoods Corner village and its businesses) relates to its proposed extension of the existing T3 transit lane operating hours in both directions on Manukau Road (Owens Road - Greenwoods Corner) and Pah Road (Greenwoods Corner - Trafalgar Street) along with a small section of Manukau Road heading away from Newmarket past Greenwoods Corner. Currently, the T3 transit lanes operate between 4 - 7pm. However, Auckland Transport proposes to extend the operational hours of the T3 lanes by one hour, starting an hour earlier (running from 3 - 7pm). We encourage all businesses and residents to provide their feedback to Auckland Transport by clicking the "Have Your Say" survey link: Keeping Epsom/Greenlane moving in the afternoon | Have your say | Auckland Transport Auckland Transport's public consultation will remain open until 1st June 2025. We’re thrilled to share the incredible journey of the Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand EcoPlay Challenge! Over ten weeks, their dedicated team embraced sustainability, making impactful changes that benefit both our planet and our community.
Here are some highlights:
Their efforts resulted in a significant reduction of our carbon footprint by 95kg CO2, equivalent to the emissions from a one-way flight from Auckland to Wellington! But they’re not stopping here. They’re planning more sustainable actions, including transitioning to electric vehicles, responsible event planning, and expanding our gardens with community help. Special thanks to Albert-Eden Local Board, and both Detlev Jackson and Daylyn Braganza from Auckland Council for their support! We are thrilled to share the incredible journey of Caring 4 Smiles, a dental practice dedicated to sustainability and protecting our planet!
Under the leadership of Dr. Loyola Correa, Caring 4 Smiles has made significant strides in reducing their environmental impact through the EcoPlay Challenge. Here are some highlights: 1. Going Paperless: Eliminated printed invoices and receipts, saving time and reducing waste. 2. Saving Water: Installed low-flow controllers and added water conservation reminders. 3. Recycling Dental Metals: Collecting and recycling gold, silver, and amalgams to reduce emissions and prevent pollution. 4. Promoting Energy Awareness: Encouraging mindful energy use among staff. 5. Managing Waste and Donations: Proper disposal of steripouches and donating unused equipment to clinics in the Pacific Islands. Over 10 weeks, they reduced their carbon emissions by 338 kg CO₂, equivalent to driving from Auckland to Timaru and back! Caring 4 Smiles proves that sustainability is not just achievable but essential for a thriving business, healthier patients, and a better world. Special thanks to Albert-Eden Local Board, and both Detlev Jackson and Daylyn Braganza from Auckland Council for their support! Let's make 2025 the year of sustainable change! Auckland Transport (AT) has confirmed that following community consultation regarding the proposed Greenwoods Corner Safety Improvements, it will be proceeding with changes that balance key concerns of parking loss and support for pedestrian safety. The original proposal required five parking spaces to be removed from the village centre however, the revised design will now result in a net zero loss of car parking for the immediate area and improve safety and connectedness between either side of Manukau Road in Greenwoods Corner village centre. AT's changes to Greenwoods Corner will include:
