Greenwoods Corner Epsom Business Association was recently the recipient of Epsom Rotary’s generous donation of an AED.
AEDs are portable, lightweight devices that analyse the heart’s rhythm and if necessary, deliver an electric shock, known as a defibrillation, to help restore the heart’s natural rhythm. Having an AED in the community can make the difference between life and death. St John New Zealand notes that the use of an AED can increase someone’s survival chances by up to 44%. Without an AED, the chance of survival decreases by 10% for each minute that passes without defibrillation. The AED will be stored at On Point Physio, 594 Manukau Road, and is readily available for public use during their hours of operation in the case of an emergency. |
