On Monday, 31st July, Greenwoods Corner Epsom Business Association and the Epsom & Eden District Historical Society held a launch party for the Greenwoods Corner Epsom Historical Walk.
The event was well attended and many stories about the local area were shared and enjoyed over a glass of wine. The aim of the walk is to celebrate our local history and encourage people of all ages to explore our wonderful community through the use of an accessible, free-to-use mobile app. Please click here for the Our Auckland News Article published about the walk for further information. Thank you to everyone that contributed towards the creation of this walk and to all of those that came along to celebrate the launch. It is with great pleasure that Greenwoods Corner Epsom Business Association and the Epsom and Eden District Historical Society announce the creation of their joint initiative, the “Greenwoods Corner Epsom Historical Walk”. The self-guided walk features fourteen key historical sites in and around Greenwoods Corner. Historical narratives, photographs, advertisements and audio clips have been uploaded for individual stop locations onto a purpose-built, free to use mobile App. Stainless steel plaques for many of the stops have been installed along the route, which is centred on Manukau Road, between the Epsom Methodist Church to the south and the former Tram Barns to the north. The history of each stop on the walk is accessible either by scanning the QR code on the plaque at each location, by scrolling through each stop on the App or simply by clicking on the pins dropped along the App’s mapped route. We encourage everyone to walk around and explore the rich history on display in Greenwoods Corner. We are delighted to announce the arrival of our new planters!
With the support of the Albert-Eden Local Board and Albert-Eden Neighbourhood Arts, Greenwoods Corner Epsom Business Association commissioned the installation of these beautiful planters in Greenwoods Corner Village. We hope that locals and visitors alike enjoy these vibrant green additions to the area. The Christmas spirit is alive and well in Greenwoods Corner this year with a large array of festive windows popping up in and around the village centre. Make a point of stopping by, take a look at the window displays on show and explore what seasonal treats are on offer. There are plenty of reasons to keep coming back to the Corner! Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year from the Greenwoods Corner Epsom Business Association. Greenwoods Corner Epsom Business Association was recently the recipient of Epsom Rotary’s generous donation of an AED.
AEDs are portable, lightweight devices that analyse the heart’s rhythm and if necessary, deliver an electric shock, known as a defibrillation, to help restore the heart’s natural rhythm. Having an AED in the community can make the difference between life and death. St John New Zealand notes that the use of an AED can increase someone’s survival chances by up to 44%. Without an AED, the chance of survival decreases by 10% for each minute that passes without defibrillation. The AED will be stored at On Point Physio, 594 Manukau Road, and is readily available for public use during their hours of operation in the case of an emergency. During summer 2021 a new canopy will be installed by the Greenwoods Corner Epsom Business Association on the pergola at the crossroads of Manukau and Pah Roads (outside the former ASB Bank).
The pergola itself has already been sanded and repainted by some of our awesome volunteers, and following a vote at the Business Association’s launch event, the colour chosen for the new canopy was… black. Final designs for the canopy have been approved and fabrication will begin shortly. Watch this space! |
