Following completion of the pedestrian crossing upgrade, Greenwoods Corner village now has a new traffic-light controlled crossing near 571 Manukau Road and is much better-connected.
The triangle-shaped layout of the Greenwoods Corner intersection is unique because of the angle that Pah Road and Manukau Road connect, with kerbside parking located inside the intersection. To improve the safety and accessibility of Greenwoods Corner village, the Albert-Eden Local Board allocated the sum of $547,000 towards the upgrade. Chairperson of the Albert-Eden Local Board, Kendyl Smith, stated that "to get to this point we’ve had robust conversations with all stakeholders, and initially it was proposed five parking spaces would have to go, however, after working closely with Auckland Transport and the community, we’ve retained four parking spaces, and added a new parking space into the layout, so the new design is not only safer, but we’re ensuring businesses can keep the parking spaces they require. It’s great to land on a final design that suits the different needs of Greenwoods Corner.” President of the Greenwoods Corner Epsom Business Association, Dominique Bonn, confirmed that the upgrades were a welcome addition to the area, stating "I’m pleased we’ve managed to land on a design that’s going to best-serve our community and the different users of Greenwoods Corner”.
